Director's Description

The Adult Congenital Heart Disease program is housed within Cook Children's Medical Center, a free-standing Children's Hospital located in Fort Worth, Texas. The program offers comprehensive adult congenital cardiac care in both the pediatric and adult setting.

The ACHD outpatient clinics are located primarily at the Children's Hospital with several additional satellite campuses in the surrounding DFW region and West Texas sites.

The ACHD program is made up of 3 ACHD boarded cardiologists, two cardiothoracic congenital heart surgeons, an ACHD APP, ACHD coordinator, social worker and clinical therapist.

The Cook Children's Medical Center cardiology program is comprised of 17 pediatric cardiologists. We have 2 interventional cardiologists, 3 electrophysiologists, 4 cardiac MRI imagers and a full service echocardiography laboratory. There is a 12 bed cardiac ICU staffed by full-time cardiac intensivists. Surgery is offered both at the Children's Hospital as well as local adult facilities. Multidisciplinary conferences are held on a standing basis to discuss complex cases headed for surgery or catheter based intervention.

A formal transitions program exists for maturing adolescents with congenital heart disease.

A comprehensive high risk pregnancy service is also available for women with congenital heart disease in conjunction with the high risk obstetrics program and fetal cardiology program.
