Fund Congenital Heart Disease Research, Data Collection, and Workforce Development
The Congenital Heart Futures Reauthorization Act of 2024 (CHFRA) was signed into law November 2024. Each year Congress must fund the legislation for its new fiscal year so vital CHD research and surveillance programs can continue and Congress can receive the critical information they need to evaluate the shortage of qualified specialists serving adults with CHD. For fiscal year 2026 our advocates successfully secured $9.25 million, the largest amount ever allocated by Congress to support CHD programs under this law. For the 2027 fiscal year we are asking Congress to appropriate $10 million in funding, the maximum possible amount under the current law, to ensure continued medical progress and support for our CHD community.

Ask Congress to fund congenital heart disease research and surveillance programs
Use the Adult Congenital Heart Association’s convenient, pre-drafted letter to ask your Members of Congress to provide full funding of $10 million in FY27 for lifesaving CHD research and surveillance programs authorized under CHFRA. These programs help advance critical CHD research and surveillance at the CDC. CHFRA also requires the Secretary of Health and Human Services to convene a working group on CHD workforce issues and deliver recommendations to Congress on addressing the growing shortage of specialized cardiologists.
