Contraception and the ACHD survivor
February 11, 2010 : 7 pm EST
Presenter: Disty Pearson, PA-C
Senior Physician Assistant
Boston Adult Congenital Heart Service (BACH)
About the Webinar
Have questions about contraception? Disty Pearson has spoken nationally on issues of contraception and how they affect the ACHD community. She will give an overview of the contraceptive challenges and choices for the ACHD survivor.
Starting from the importance of understanding the various obstacles to education of contraception, Disty will review the many issues facing contraceptive choices. Why, for example, the ACHD cardiologist must discuss issues of birth control with their patients when it really does not into the category of cardiology (though it may be a matter of the “heart”). What are the different contraceptive options? Why do some pose more risk for the ACHD patient than others? What are the facts about estrogen, and who should not use contraceptives containing estrogens? Who can use an IUD safely?
This will be a discussion of contraception directed primarily to ACHD patients and family members. Healthcare professionals are also encouraged to participate if interested. Following the presentation, audience members will have the chance to have their own questions answered.
